4oD Gets Its Own Windows 8 App

Looks like Channel 4's on-demand service is headed for Windows 8. Channel 4 this week announced that its 4oD service is now present on Microsoft's newest OS thanks to the release of a 4oD app for the Windows 8 app store.

Channel 4 boasts that 4oD is the first UK video on demand app developed for Windows 8 and is already available for download by those that have Windows 8 installed. The app will allow folks to watch their favourite shows from Channel 4, E4 and More 4. This includes the latest episodes from shows like Fresh Meat and Homeland, to older shows like Father Ted.

"We're very excited to be working with Microsoft, a strong global brand which aligns perfectly with Channel 4's engaged ABC1 16-34 audience," said Michael McSharry, Group Digital Manager at Channel 4 said. "It demonstrates how we can work with clients collaboratively to create something that is new to market, bespoke and one that utilises all our 4oD platforms as well as linking in to relevant content on Channel 4 to provide a fully integrated cross media brand experience."

The announcement adds Windows 8 to the growing list of platforms already supporting 4oD, including Channel 4's own website, iOS, YouTube, PS3, Xbox, Virgin Media, YouTube and BT Vision. Next year, the company hopes to add Sky's on demand service, Android, Freesat, and Samsung connected TVs to the list.
