BRUSSELS ? As the euro crisis rages, people in Europe are facing a question not only about a financial crisis but about an identity crisis as well.
Whether or not the euro is saved may depend largely on whether they see themselves going forward primarily as Europeans, or governed as French, Germans, Italians, Spaniards and so on.
The answer could determine the shape of Europe for decades. Experts say more integration is necessary to save the euro, and Europeans must choose now or the choice will be made for them by a disintegration of the eurozone ? and maybe the European Union itself.
And the answer cannot be delayed.
The European Union's monetary chief, Olli Rehn, said Wednesday that Europe is "now entering the critical period of 10 days" save the euro.
