Find Out About Buying Cyprus Property | News Fire

Writer: Brianna Levine on Jul 29 2011.

Beautiful and sun kissed, Cyprus is an island nation with a rich 8000 year history. It is one of the largest islands on the Mediterranean after Sicily and Sardinia. It boasts scenic ruins, rolling countryside, and seaside views. Friendly locals and a warm climate have made the island an favorite destination for recreation and sports including golf and scuba diving. Many a visitor and retiree have found ideal abodes when they purchased a Cyprus property as a home or vacation nest.

The island nation used to be colonized by the British, but gained independence in 1960. To this day, many British come to the island to retire or to spend their holidays in its idyllic environs. Many Britons have either permanent residence here or a seasonal holiday retreat.

The northern part of the island is currently occupied by Turkey and access between North and South is limited. However, negotiations are underway to resolve current issues, including that of bringing Northern Cyprus into the EU.

Presently, many properties on the island are being sold and prices have gone down. Despite a recent increase in tourism on the island, few tourists have taken interest in buying property.

Interest in purchasing properties is still there, however. A buyer would be prudent to consider aspects such as what he needs in a residence or vacation home and the amount he is willing to spend for a place of his needs. With these factors decided, a buyer can quickly find estate listings online and then arrange visits to meet owners and visit prospective sites, maybe with a real estate agent.

As with many major purchases, interested individuals may benefit by the help of a third party such as an agent. It should be noted that agents often ask for a commission of 2% of the cost of the property and buyer is often restricted to only viewing properties presented by the agent.

Choosing to purchase privately may be more advantageous for the buyer in that he may have a more personal approach to negotiations, as well as a freer hand in the number of sites he would be able to visit. The buyer may be able to get better prices, payment schemes, help with repairs, and such.

There are many options that a buyer looking to purchase a Cyprus property can consider in obtaining his ideal home or vacation house. There are many testimonies of satisfaction by homeowners on the island. It is not absurd to think that others may experience the same contentment.
