Social Network Evolution | Internet Marketing Online Course

I still remember the time when I was in 4th year high school. We learned Windows 2000 at that time but the internet was not yet prominent in our place. I learned how to use the internet after a year or two and my brother taught me how to use the yahoo messenger. Then in college, Friendster became so popular. I miss those days when we were always distracted by those things whenever we do our research in the internet?. Anyway, I just want to talk about the social network evolution here because it is now crucial to internet marketing as well.

Friendster

Almost everyone who has the access to internet before have their own Friendster profile. During this time, I was just a student so I just can?t tell you that much about it?s impact to internet marketing. As far as I know, it is more of social networking and not really so much for business (well, correct me if I?m wrong).

My Space, Tagged, etc

Aside from Friendster, there were also bunch of other social networking sites. My Space was popular in the US I think. I also joined Tagged.com before and I also saw some other not so popular social media sites.

Facebook

After some years, while working as a video editor, my colleague introduced Facebook to me and he said that it is a lot better. I then joined there as well. This social network just boomed and almost everyone has profile in it. It?s a good thing that I met lots of my old friends and cousins through it.

When Facebook became so popular, it killed Friendster. Well, Friendster can no longer stand the competition and I think they sold the site to a Malaysian businessman (have to research more on this).

Facebook is now used in online business as well. Aside from the Facebook profile, you can also create a Facebook group and a Facebook fan page. Almost all of the websites you see today has a Facebook fan page linking to it because of it?s great impact to internet marketing.

Twitter

Aside from Facebook, Twitter is also popular today. You can attract lots of followers and they can see what?s going on in your online business.

Google +

Google also created their own social platform. When it was first launched, it also gained millions of members but sad to say it still can?t defeat Facebook. However, it became a crucial part of SEO ranking so internet marketers are like ?forced? to use it.

In any case, I hear some of my professional colleagues saying that it is better to see posts at google + compared to Facebook. I can agree with this since when I go to my google + profile, I see people in my circles showing their latest photographs with explanations, latest android gadgets, etc. But when I go to Facebook, I read posts like ?I?m having a coffee? I?m sleepy?. etc.? I?m not saying that everyone posts like that in Facebook though. It?s just annoying to see those things because it seems we care on what they are doing that they have to post them.

Pinterest

Pinterest is still fairly new and it is one of the best social networking sites so far. Some are even telling that it is the next Facebook or it is a threat to Facebook. It is also great for internet marketers since you can attract visitors by showing to them the images or videos you pinned.

Tumblr

Along with Pinterest is Tumblr. It is also fairly new but it has lots of users already. I also place the links of some of my website contents there. The good thing about the site is that, you can even make a blog post inside.

So.cl

This is a social networking site created by Microsoft. They say that It was built for students. I haven?t used this myself though so I can?t speak more about it. I just read Kyle?s article about it before and there, he mentioned his feelings about it.

Social network is keep on evolving really and we don?t know if something new will still be added and some will be gone soon. As internet marketers, it?s just important to be updated with those things because social media has a great impact to our industry.
